A qualified lead is not simply a phone number. It is a person whose need, fit and next action are clear enough for your team to respond usefully.

1. Define qualification with sales

Marketing, automation and sales must agree on what makes a lead worth immediate attention. The definition should reflect the actual selling process.

  • Need: what is the customer trying to solve?
  • Fit: can your business serve the request?
  • Timing: when is the decision expected?
  • Next action: what should happen now?

2. Ask only decision-changing questions

Every extra question creates friction. Keep a question only if its answer changes recommendation, routing, priority or the next action.

3. Preserve the source and context

The sales team should know the campaign, product, customer answers and automation path. Asking the customer to repeat everything destroys the value of qualification.

4. Score carefully

A score should prioritise work, not pretend certainty. Use transparent rules and let the team correct assumptions as conversations develop.
